My Expertise
With over two decades of experience as a publisher at both independent and corporate publishing houses and now as a highly sought after literary agent, I bring a unique combination of editorial insight, industry knowledge, and deal-making expertise to every author I represent.

About Me
I am a literary agent representing the very best literary, reading group and genre fiction authors with Andrew Nurnberg Associates, an internationally renowned literary agency. I am based in London but hail originally from Waterford, Ireland. I have twenty five years’ experience in the world of publishing, having started my career at Orion Publishing Group and then as a Publishing Director at Atlantic Books.
I have been fortunate enough to work with some amazing authors over the course of my career. I was Robert Ludlum’s UK editor for many years and published a number of his most significant novels (including the Bourne series). I edited and published Rainbow Rowell’s iconic novel, Eleanor and Park, which spent six weeks at the top of the New York Times bestseller list. I also had a wonderful time publishing Kevin Kwan’s extraordinary debut, Crazy Rich Asians along with many other stand-out authors like Megan Miranda, Elizabeth Buchan and Minette Walters.
My taste
My taste is quite eclectic! I enjoy a plot-driven, page-turning narrative having worked with Michael Connelly (The Lincoln Lawyer and the Harry Bosch novels such as The Narrows, Echo Park and The Overlook) and Harlan Coban (Tell No One) early on in my career. But I am also drawn to the fantastical in fiction - writers like Emily St John Mandel (Station Eleven and Sea of Tranquility), Naomi Alderman (The Power) and Kazuo Ishiguro (Never Let Me Go). My favourite thriller authors would definitely include Chris Whitaker (All the Colours of the Dark), Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl) and Alex Michaelides (The Silent Patient). I also adore funny, upbeat, quirky novels, especially if they include an off-beat love story (anything by David Nicholls). The book I wish I had represented in the last few years is Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. It’s such a profoundly moving, inventive and thought-provoking narrative about friendship and love.
I enjoy the process of working with authors on their ideas, honing their craft and turning their creativity and talent into commercial success. I am passionate about storytelling, with particular interest in upmarket genre, reading group and accessible literary fiction. I enjoy working closely with writers, helping to shape and develop their work and advocating on their behalf. I have a very deep network of contacts in the publishing industry, built over a long career, and seek to use that knowledge and insight to give my clients the best possible publishing journey.
I am excited to hear from fiction authors of all backgrounds. I love powerful, page-turning stories and I’m drawn to unique voices. It would be a pleasure to read your work.
What I am looking for now
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that ‘romantasy’ is huge right now, so much so that it sometimes feels as though there’s little room for anything else in the market! It’s likely that speculative and fantasy-driven fiction will be a major trend for years to come but we can expect that to evolve and change form over time. For instance, smart horror is having a moment, along with high-concept, playful thrillers and novels set in the ‘real world’ that have a fantastical twist.
In terms of what I’m looking for right now, I would be particularly interested to hear from speculative writers, literary horror writers, clever, twisty thriller writers, authors of elevated love stories and those who are writing on a big canvas or aiming to be ambitious in their storytelling.
What I Offer
As a successful and prominent literary agent my role is to represent and support you, the writer. This means making sure your novel has the best possible chance of securing a deal.
As an experienced editor with deep market knowledge, I like to work creatively with my clients to develop their writing as much as possible before submission. You only get one shot at the submission process, so it’s vital the work is as good as it can be. This editorial journey can be demanding but hopefully also satisfying. I work intensively with my clients pre-submission, sometimes over multiple drafts and several months until the novel really shines. You must be prepared to work hard during this developmental period —to be open to feedback/ supportive criticism and be willing to revise your work. Though this process is undoubtedly rigorous, the results are worth it and can significantly increase your chances of securing a high-value publishing deal. I work closely with authors on multiple rounds of revisions, focusing on all the elements of the work - content, tone, structure, pace and character.
I have the benefit of editorial support with this phase from a trusted and quite brilliant colleague, Maeve Bradbury. Maeve has worked for many years as a developmental editor, helping to advise authors on how to improve their work. She is an editorial magician, with whom I’m deeply fortunate to work.
Once an offer is on the table from a publishing house (or multiple houses), the fun part begins; negotiating a great deal for you and your book! But that’s just the start of the journey. As your novel begins its path through the publishing process, I will be there to help support and guide you throughout. Publishing can often feel like an intimidating and baffling world to the uninitiated - a secret club into which few are granted membership. Having someone in your corner with real knowledge and expertise can make all the difference.
As decisions have to be made about titles (they often change), publication strategy and marketing approach, I will be on there to talk these through with you. And when we move onto the next book, I will be a sounding board, counselling you on that all important next step, looking at early material and giving direction so that Book 2 builds on the success of your debut. I aim to foster long term relationships with my clients and have extensive experience in building lasting careers.
At Andrew Nurnberg Associates, I am fortunate to have the backing of a extensive expert team of specialists operating across 14 offices internationally selling audio, serial and translation rights. We also have a TV and Film Department focussed on developing manuscripts for film, TV, and streaming content rights both in the UK and in Hollywood and I often work with external agencies such as Creative Artists Agency and William Morris Endeavour on the book-to-film process. You will have the backing of a large and highly successful agency with all the contacts and individual expertise such an organisation can bring.
